Killed by Vicious Dogs

Kim Wood is a resident of Pope County, Arkansas.
This angel fur-mom has a passion for Basset Hounds and has rescued
several. REMAX and Kazam were two of these rescues.
Although Kim's Basset family is securely kept in
a fenced yard when they are outside, they and the fence have become
the target of a neighbor's loose Rotweiller which has been classified
as a vicious dog by the Sheriff's Department. The Rotweiller has
been seen chewing and pulling at the fence to get to the smaller
dogs. Unfortunately a couple of days ago Kazam was either pulled
through or came out of a damaged place in the fence. She received
fatal injuries. REMAX was attacked twice by these dogs - the second
attack was fatal. Even though a law has been passed concerning
the proper containment of vicious dogs, this dog, along with his
Husky buddy, were able to attack and kill REMAX and Kazam on their
own property. The vicious dogs were taken into custody by Animal
Control but were quickly released and one was running loose within
24 hours. At one time the powerful Rotweiller was seen dragging
his broken chain through Kim's flower bed. Obviously, chaining
this powerful dog will not stop him from breaking loose and attempting
to attack yet another smaller dog. How many adored pets have to
die before something is done about these vicious animals?

In Kim's Words...
I love animals, and bassets have a very special
place in my heart. Both REMAX and Kazam were dogs I rescued. When
I got them, they had experienced enough neglect and pain in their
lives. REMAX had obviously been abused. He had hip problems and
heart worms when I got him, and it took him a while to learn to
trust. I went to the expense to have him treated and gave him
all the love I could possibly give.
When I got Kazam, she was just a year old. She didn't know her
name or any commands for that matter. She had been chained up
and forgotten, and her collar was so tight it had dug into her
skin. Kazam always seemed so grateful to have a home and loving
family. She loved chasing frogs. Her tail wagged constantly, and
she would always bring a smile to anyone's face.
All I wanted to do was give REMAX and Kazam a loving, safe home.
They didn't deserve to be ripped apart. I owe it to them now not
to let their deaths be in vain.

You can help keep these kinds of things from happening
in your area by reporting vicious animals that are not property
restrained and through educating yourself about the animal laws
in your own community.
