Eleven adoptions at Calvary Christian School Bar-b-que Day! It
was a great day for the pups! Lots of people came out to CCS on
a lovely, sunny day. The FCAHS sends a BIG THANK YOU to all the
people who adopted pets, walked the dogs, petted the puppies,
bought T-shirts and bracelets and made donations. Thank you CCS
for inviting us and for providing the animals with a great place
in the shade!

Puppy Love!
January 10, 2008
Eleven puppies were rescued from very poor conditions in the
Helena Dog Pound. The pups were brought to the Forrest City Shelter,
bathed, examined for injuries and other health issues and fed
lots of healthy food. As an added comfort to help them recover
from life in a very cold, drafty shack they have heat lights now
to keep them warm. They also got to go outside to play in the
sunshine Saturday with some of the members of our Puppy Patrol
who were on hand to give them lots of love and attention.

December 13 - Pup Cookie Bake
Pets love Christmas too! Our youth volunteers responded in good
numbers to the call for help with making dozens of yummy treats
for pups of all sizes and appetites. The Pup Cookies will be available
at Chez Weenie with the proceeds going to help the dogs at the
shelter. Thanks, Kids and Chez Weenie!

December 1 - Christmas Adopt-A-Thon
6 pups were adopted December 1 at our event at the Museum. Santa
was there for pictures and lots of folks dropped by to see the
dogs. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped and to the
Museum for helping to making it all possible.

November 3 - Fundraising Sale & Adopt-A-Thon
The rummage sale on the parking lot at Chez Weenie was a great
success. The FCAHS thanks The Times Herald for
housing the sale items and helping to get everything set up for
the sale - Chez Weenie for loaning us their parking
lot for the morning - Community Members who came
to the sale and so generously bought items and gave donations
- The Volunteers for hours of help with this
fund raising event!

The adopt-a-thon at Colt was a great success. Many
dogs found forever homes in the afternoon at the chili cook-off.

October 4 -
Homecoming Parade

Dogs, members and volunteers of all ages participated
in the Forrest City High School Homecoming Parade.

Fliers distributed along the parade route resulted
in 1 adoption and the reunion of a dog with his owner! We hope
to have other adoptions as a result of this opportunity to show
the dogs to the public.
September 9 -
Benny and Brook visited Mrs. King's 1st grade class
at Calvary Christian School. Benny got lots of hugs while Brook
talked to the students about pet care and responsibility. Benny
loved the attention and the children loved having him there!

May 31 -
The FCAHS logo contest winners were announced. First, second
and third place plaques were presented to students at the Junior
High and High Schools. First place winner, David Blankenship,
was also presented with a check for $25 for his drawing which
was a clever idea depicting FCAHS as the lead connecting pets
with people.

This logo will be used often by the Humane Society on T-Shirts
and many other items. Kristin Rucker placed 2nd and Shareeka Allen
3rd. The members of FCAHS were delighted by the number of entries
in the contest and had a difficult time choosing a winner from
so many creative ideas and drawings! A warm "Thank You"
goes out to all who participated.
We hope to choose a new slogan at our monthly meeting on June
4th to compliment the logo as we continue to build a "new
beginning" for Forrest City's recently opened shelter. The
time for this month's meeting has been changed to 6:00 PM at the
shelter.
May 24 - Benefit Fish Fry hosted by Mallard's Grill
A crowd of supporters came out to eat fish Thursday
night. The dinner was delicious and the company surpurb! Proceeds
will go toward much needed equipment for the shelter.
Thank you, Forrest City, for your support!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
May 21 - Visit to Stewart Elementary School

Brook gave valuable information about animal population control
and adoption to the students at the school. The children had an
opportunity to ask questions and pet the puppies from the shelter.
The puppies (Freckles, Barney and Betty) had the most fun being
petted by dozens of little hands!

May 5 - Adoption Event at Colt
Look at these Smiles!

Cinco De Mayo turned out to be the luckiest day
ever for Fancy, Bat Ears and Sasha! All three were offered a loving,
forever home by a wonderful family! They accepted with wagging
tails and happy faces! We hope to have an update for the Success
Page when they have settled into their new home.

A puppy's life just can't get any better

April 10 - ASPCA Go Orange for Animals
Day

The FCAHS Puppy Patrol
Members along with volunteers and the Puppy Patrol
held an adoption event at Wal-Mart. The community had a good chance
to see some of the great animals available for adoption. 7 puppies
were adopted and shoppers gave generous donations which will go
toward the care of the animals at the shelter.

Helping with the paperwork!
March 10-11
Jeff Schwartz gave very informative dog training instructions
to the volunteers and members. "Sit", "Come"
and "Stay" are important words for good pet behavior
and safety and a great place to start for beginners!
Good News! Saturday 3 dogs and a cat were adopted into their
new homes! This brings our number of adoptions to 19 since the
new shelter opened in February.

February 24 & 25
An "Adopt-A-Thon" was held at the shelter February
24 & 25. In spite of very bad weather 5 dogs were adopted
during the two days - including little Lois who was the first
resident of the new shelter. Many volunteers came out to help
show, walk, pet and play with the dogs. Thank you Forrest City,
for your support!

Our Volunteers are the Greatest!
February 17
Volunteers joined members in walking, bathing and petting the
dogs. The littlest volunteers had great fun playing with all the
puppies while the rest hosed down the kennels, exercised the bigger
dogs and did general clean up work. Thank you volunteers!
February 14
The big news in February 2007 was the grand opening of the new
shelter on the 14th! Now that the new facility is officially open,
every kennel has been populated with homeless dogs. The FCAHS
wishes to thank all of you who joined us for this much anticipated
occasion and your continuing support!

February 13
Members of the DBS visited the shelter bringing
many items from our wish list. Thank you, DBS!
